Shaun attending the Belfast Ceremony

Armistice Day

Armistice Day is the anniversary of the end of World War I on 11 November 1918. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany at Rethondes, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning — the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

On Sunday I attended the wreath laying ceremony in Belfast on behalf of the British Government, to commemorate the sacrifices of servicemen and women who have given their lives for their country.

On this the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War we remember the heroic deeds done by many good men and women who have served their country so ably. We will forever be indebted to them for their sacrifice to protect our country.

We must also remember the brave soldiers currently deployed around the world. They are true heroes and we should rightly be proud of them and their families.

In the comming weeks I will be holding a veterans event in St Helens to say thank you to all those who have and continue to serve their country.
