Today I visited Carmel College to view the progress of re-developments to the college are progressing, including the great new sporting facilities that will help develop our local athletes for another fantastic games in London 2012.
Carmel College is undergoing an extensive redevelopment, phase one of which has just been completed. The improvements will include two top-of-the-range MUGA’s (Multi-Use Games Areas) which will be used not only by the budding athletes of the college itself, but by the rest of the community.
I met several bright young sports students – pictured above – including a young Olympic judo hopeful, all of whom are excited about using the new facilities and having the chance to use world-class facilities in the build-up to London 2012.
This is a prime example of the kind of investment this government is making in our schools and community and in the sporting excellence of our country – and, following on from the success of the Beijing campaign, one which we hope will contribute to an even greater legacy at the London 2012 games.
