Today I was given a full tour of the new St Helens Hospital which will open it’s doors and take its very first patient on Tuesday 21st October 2008.
I was able to chat with staff, who were visiting the new hospital, familiarising themselves with the facilities before officially moving in to the building.
The staff are as impressed as I am with the new Hospital and I share their excitement about the facilities the new Hospital will offer, they are truly World Class. Patients will be able to receive CT or MRI scans on site and the theatre wards are equipped with some of the most advanced facilities in Europe.
You only have to look across the road to see the outdated Victorian building the new Hospital will replace, whilst the old Hospital has served our Community well, it has now reached it’s sell by-date and it is time we moved into the 21st Century.
Of course no matter how good the facilities are, the NHS would not be the institution it is without the dedicated staff, which work so hard and serve St Helens with distinction. I am extremely proud of you and thank you for all work looking after our residents.
I would urge all residents and professionals working in health care to take some time out of your busy day and to visit what it quite frankly a stunning new Hospital.
I look forward to returning to the Hospital to speak to patients and visitors and to hear what their thoughts are of the superb new Hospital.
